  • Step 1

    Fastbraces® consultation

Your first appointment is the consultation. At this appointment you will have already downloaded the New Patient Exam form and either submitted it online or have it ready to bring to your first appointment with Dr. Kathleen Sandberg.

She will go over anything important in your medical history or answer any questions you may have related to this.

This consultation appointment is quick and painless. Kathleen will take a look at both your teeth and your face and discuss what treatment options are available to you and how Fastbraces® can work for you.

If Kathleen doesn’t feel it is within her scope of practice to continue to treat you, then she will be more than happy to send you to a specialist orthodontist for further discussions on how best to treat your specific specialist needs.

  • Step 2

    Fastbraces® initial appointment

This appointment will take between 1 1/2 and 2 hours. Please be aware that you can not book this until you have had your Fastbraces® consultation appointment with Dr. Kathleen Sandberg.

At this appointment, you will have “records” taken. You will need photos (intra-oral only), X-rays and impressions/moulds for study models. Your “worst” arch (top or bottom) will be fitted with Fastbraces®. You may not get all of the brackets placed on all of the teeth of that arch, depending on the crowding and position of the teeth. In this manner, Fastbraces® is different from traditional braces, so it is important to be aware of this prior to coming in for the first appointment. This methodology makes Fastbraces® far less painful and traumatic for patients, which keeps them coming back smiling!

  • Step 3

    Fastbraces® recurring appointments

These appointments occur anywhere from 3-6 weeks. People normally think of these appointments as “getting their braces tightened”. Although this concept doesn’t really apply to Fastbraces®, patients tend to think of these as a similar type of appointment. (I personally like to think of them as “progressive appointments” and love to share old photos each time with the “new you”)!

This is also where additional Fastbraces® brackets are placed, as teeth come into alignment/archform.

Sometimes, a small amount of space is necessary to achieve a movement, (but not enough to warrant a tooth extraction), so a procedure called “inter proximal reduction” takes place. This is a reshaping of the contact point between the teeth and allows the teeth to align better.

Click here for more information on Interproximal Reduction

There will generally be anywhere from 3-10+ appointments of Fastbraces® recurring appointments throughout your course of treatment, depending on the severity of your need for orthodontics.

  • Step 4

    Fastbraces® de-banding/retainer

When both the patient/parent and Dr. Kathleen Sandberg feel the treatment has come to an end, the braces are removed and retainers are given. Generally, the upper teeth will have a removable retainer that will require another quick appointment to fit it, while the bottom teeth will generally be fitted with a fixed retainer that same day. Photos will be taken of your new beautiful smile for the records and you will be free to show off to all of your friends…(who are probably still wearing their traditional braces).

Please Note: Retainers are very important and are required for all patients.

What are Fastbraces®?

FASTBRACES® Technologies, is now in almost 50 countries, celebrating its quarter of a century anniversary of helping dentists and orthodontists straighten teeth. Teeth are crooked because they didn't erupt properly and came in tilted, sideways, overlapping or spaced apart and, as a result, they are not upright.

FASTBRACES® Technologies high performance bracket systems upright the roots of the teeth from the beginning of treatment with just one square wire by torquing and tipping them from the very first appointment. Treatment time for comprehensive orthodontic therapy should take more than 120 days with the FASTBRACES® CLASSIC™ SERIES™ and could take less than 120 days for non-deep bite cases with the FASTBRACES® TURBO™ SERIES™, depending on the patient cooperation and clinical experience of the treating dentist.

Growth Plates

These are utilised prior to the start of fixed orthodontics and can only be used while the child is in the growth phase, typically between the ages of 9-13. Examples include Palatal Expander Therapy and Twin Block Therapy. They are $2000 and are a separate cost to braces, and may preempt the need for braces in later teen years.

The first appointment consists of X-rays, photos and moulds. The deposit of $1000 is due at this appointment. The lab will make the appliance and then a second appointment is made for delivery approximately 2 weeks later. This appointment will be $500. One month later, a review appointment will be made. This appointment is the remaining $500. Growth Plates are generally worn for approximately 1 year. There will be 3 additional appointments at no charge within this year to make adjustments to the plate(s) as necessary.

Dental Implant Surgery - Including Computer Guided

For those missing even one tooth, an unsightly gap is actually the least significant problem. What is of far greater concern is the bone loss that inevitably follows tooth loss. Dental implants can preserve bone, improve function and enhance psychological well-being. You may not notice when you smile at yourself in the mirror, but when you talk to people and laugh, it may be a different story. The space on the side of your mouth, for instance, most likely will show to others during normal conversation.

Many people are surprised at how relatively easy dental implant surgery is. We, as humans, know that it is natural to let our imaginations get the best of us before going through a procedure such, as implant surgery. But the reality is that most patients experience no pain during the the surgery and have very little discomfort afterward. Dr. Sandberg will have met you prior to the procedure for an in-depth consultation and will go over everything so that you are made to feel comfortable for the “big” day. She can also give you sedatives to help relax you, should you choose.

Costs vary widely and are determined on a case by case basis. Computer Guided Surgery has an additional cost of $1250, however, the benefits are many: Surgery can be precise, safe, and predictable. Surgery time is shorter. Generally carried out as a flapless surgery and shorter recovery time for the patient. Less invasion, blood, and pain for the patient. Immediate loading is possible. Bone grafts can be minimised.

A standard implant and crown total cost starts at $3900. A consultation fee of $150 is charged for the initial visit. This visit includes X-rays (2-D), however, a 3-D scan will be necessary and will need to be done at an imaging centre, and is an additional cost.

Dental Implants

  • Step 1

    The Implant

Dr. Sandberg only uses Osstem® and BioHorizons® premium titanium dental implants. This implant literally becomes the new "root portion" of where the tooth used to be. During a minor surgical procedure, the implant is placed beneath the gum, into the jawbone. Over the course of a few months, it will actually become part of your jawbone by fusing to it, in a process known as osseointegration.

  • Step 2

    The Implant Crown

After a few months of healing (osseointegration), the implant will then need an implant crown, which is like the crown portion of your old tooth (the part that you chew on and see when you smile). At this appointment, an impression is taken and sent to the laboratory and your new crown will be ready to put on top of your implant in just a few weeks. During the entire procedure, it may be possible to have a temporary crown on the tooth, (for aesthetic purposes, for example).

Additional Cosmetic Services

Costs vary widely and are determined on a case by case basis. All fillers include anaesthesia.
Combination of differing fillers and/or botulinum toxin for “overall effect” will increase price.
Lips starting at $590
Cheekbones starting at $850
Nasolabial folds starting at $750

A consultation appointment is mandatory. Cost is $100, but will be applied toward treatment, if treatment progresses within 1 month of consultation appointment.

  • Dermal Fillers

    Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers ( Belotero® and Teoxane®) are a non-invasive treatment used to restore youth and volume to the face. As we age, our skin begins to lose its elasticity and natural hydration. This, combined with the effects of gravity, can lead to lines, wrinkles and sagging of the skin.

Fillers are an excellent treatment to restore volume and plumpness to lips, chin, cheeks, the jawline and even the nose.

Dermal fillers are fast and easy. They are administered via tiny injections and the results are visible instantly. Filler injections are quick and simple, and provide instant results with a minimal amount of discomfort and downtime.

Dr. Sandberg offers both the newer generation of Hyaluronic Acid dermal fillers (Teoxane® and Beletero®) as well as the older generation fillers such as Restylane®.

  • Botulinum Injections

    Botulinum Injections

Botulinum Injections ( Xeomin® and Dysport®) are used medically to treat certain muscular conditions, and cosmetically to remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing muscles. It is made from a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.

It is predominantly used as a treatment to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines.

Botulinum toxin has been used for more than 20 years to treat a variety of conditions. It is predominantly used as a treatment to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines. It has become the treatment of choice for wrinkles occurring in the upper one-third of the face (frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, and crow's feet). Both Xeomin® and Dysport® injectables are simple, effective, non-surgical treatments that work by relaxing facial muscles. Dr. Kathleen Sandberg had her training in the United States and has been certified for over 12 years.
